Fluoride (F-)

Fluoride is necessary for building bones and teeth. Teeth with fluoride are less prone to caries (thus tooth paste containing fluoride). It is used together with Calcium (Ca++) and Vitamin D to treat osteoporosis.

On the other hand, fluoride is higly reactive and should be taken with care.

Sort all waters by Fluoride.

Recommended Daily Allowance

The recommended maximum daily allowance depends on the age:

Agefemalemale
0 - 6 months0.01 mg0.01 mg
6 - 12 months0.5 mg0.5 mg
1 - 3 years0.7 mg0.7 mg
4 - 8 years1.1 mg1.1 mg
9 - 13 years2.0 mg2.0 mg
14 - 18 years2.9 mg3.2 mg
> 19 years3.1 mg3.8 mg

Oversupply of Fluoride

Too much fluoride colours the teeth and if taken over a very long time may lead to changes in the bone structure.

Note: many toothpastes contain fluoride to keep the teeth healthy. While this is a good thing, it may lead to an oversupply of fluoride.

Note: This guide can only give a general overview of these minerals and their possible effects on the human body. It cannot and does not want to replace a doctor. If you are unsure about some aspect, or feel unweell, please consult professional help.
